Two-factor sign-in asks for a six-digit code from an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator, 1Password or Authy) after your password. Each person turns it on for their own account, and the owner can require it for the whole team.

Turn it on

Start

Go to Settings → Your account. Under Two-factor sign-in, choose Turn on and enter Your password.

Scan the code

Scan the QR code with your authenticator app. If you cannot scan it, type the key shown under Cannot scan? Enter this key instead.

Confirm

Enter the Six-digit code the app shows and choose Turn on. Two-factor sign-in is not on until this code is accepted.

Save your backup codes

You are shown 10 backup codes. Each signs you in once if you lose your phone. Save them somewhere safe now: they are not shown again. Download as a text file saves them in a file named for your account, with the date they were made. Then choose I have saved them.

Signing in

After your password, enter the six-digit code from your app.
  • I do not have my phone: use a backup code lets you enter one of your backup codes instead. Each works once.
  • Trust this browser for 30 days skips the code on that browser for a month. Only use it on a computer that is yours.
After five wrong codes, the account is locked for 15 minutes. With two-factor sign-in on, you sign in with your password and code only. Email me a sign-in link sends nothing to your address, and Continue with Google does not sign you in: either would be a way around the code.

New backup codes

Choose New backup codes and enter your password. You get 10 new codes, which you can download the same way, and every earlier code stops working.

Turn it off

Choose Turn off and enter your password. Signing in then asks for your password only. While your organization requires two-factor sign-in, Turn off is not offered.

Require it for the team

The owner can make two-factor sign-in compulsory for everyone in the organization. Go to Settings → Your account and, under Team sign-in, choose Require it. To stop, choose Stop requiring.

Team sign-in: only the owner can require it.

  • Only the owner sees this, and only once two-factor sign-in is on for the owner’s own account, so switching it on cannot lock the owner out.
  • Anyone on the team without two-factor sign-in then sees only a Turn on two-factor sign-in screen when they open WatchMyCover. They turn it on there, as above, and carry on. Nothing else in the app works for them until they do, including anything done through the API.
  • Switching it on or off is recorded in the Activity log.
