This page is for subcontractors, suppliers and their insurance agents. If you received an email asking for a certificate of insurance, a general contractor you work with uses WatchMyCover to keep track of their subcontractors’ insurance.

What the email is

The email is sent on behalf of the company you work with, signed with their name. It asks for one of these:
  • A renewal: a policy on the certificate they hold is about to expire, or has expired.
  • A correction: the certificate they hold does not meet the insurance requirements in your agreement with them. The email lists what needs to change.
  • Documents: something on the certificate cannot be confirmed from the certificate alone, usually an endorsement such as additional insured. The email names the endorsement form to send.
  • A certificate: they do not have one on file for you.
Your insurance agent may be copied, because they are usually the person who issues the certificate or endorsement.

You do not need an account

There is nothing to sign up for, no password and no login. You can reply to the email with the PDF attached, or use the link in it.

How to send the certificate

Get the document from your agent

Ask your insurance agent for a current certificate, or the endorsement form the email names. Forwarding them the email works: it is written so they can act on it.

Open the link in the email

It opens a page headed “Send the certificate of insurance for” your company, showing who is asking and until when the link works. It lists what the company requires of you, what is short on what they hold today, and a section you can print or email to your insurance agent so they know exactly what to issue.

Choose the file and send it

Choose Choose the certificate (PDF, PNG or JPEG), pick the file, and choose Send certificate. One file at a time, up to 10 MB. If general liability and workers’ compensation are separate documents, send one, then choose Send another certificate.
Or simply reply to the email with the PDF attached.

What happens next

  1. The page confirms the file was received, and you get a receipt by email: “Received: your certificate for” the company that asked.
  2. The page takes a first look at the file and tells you if anything still looks short, and lists anything it could not read. This is software reading the file, not the company’s decision: they still check it themselves. If it does list something, your insurance agent is the person who can correct the certificate.
  3. Reminders pause while someone at that company reads the certificate and checks it against their requirements.
  4. If anything is missing, they will contact you. If the certificate meets their requirements after a renewal, you may get an email saying it is on file and nothing else is needed.

Is this genuine?

The upload page shows what the company asks of you and takes a file. It cannot show you anything about the company’s other subcontractors, and it never asks for a password or payment. If you are not sure the request is genuine, do not have the certificate yet, or think it was sent in error, reply to the email, or write to info@watchmycover.com. Do not send anything you are unsure about. Links expire. The page says “This upload link is no longer active.” Reply to the email with the certificate attached instead, or ask the company for a new link.
