Record an exception
Owners and admins can record one. Open the subcontractor, and under the finding choose Record an exception.- Why is this being accepted? One sentence. It is kept on the record with your name.
- In force until. The last day it runs: through that day it applies, and the day after it does not. A year at most.
- Record the exception.
What it changes
- The verdict. The finding stops counting. If nothing else is wrong, the subcontractor reads Compliant. Anything else outstanding still decides the verdict as usual.
- Chasing. The finding is not chased while the exception runs, and a chase already queued for it is withdrawn.
- What the subcontractor sees. Their upload page does not list it as short.
Where it is shown
A verdict that rests on an exception always says so:- In the subcontractors list and on the subcontractor’s page, beside the status: “1 exception”.
- On the subcontractor’s page, under Accepted for now, with the finding, the date it runs to, your reason and who recorded it.
- In the verdict history, on the verdict it applied to.
- On shared reports and their PDF, under the subcontractor: “Exception in force until” and the finding. Your reason and your name are not shown to the reader.
- In the CSV export, in the Exceptions in force column.
When it ends
On the day after its end date the finding returns at the next check, the verdict changes back, and the finding is chased like any other. Nothing needs doing for that to happen. To end one sooner, choose End early beside it, then End the exception. The finding is back at once. Nothing is deleted. An exception that has run out or was ended early stays on the record, with who recorded it, why, and who ended it. Recording and ending both appear in the subcontractor’s History and in the activity log. What cannot be excepted
An exception can be recorded on a missing coverage, a limit that is short or not stated, an endorsement that is missing or only stated on the certificate, and a certificate too old to rely on. It cannot be recorded on cover that has expired, cover that has not started yet, or a subcontractor with no certificate at all. Those are not gaps in the paperwork: on that day there is no cover to accept. They have to be put right. An exception is your company’s decision, not an opinion on coverage. WatchMyCover is not an insurer, a broker or a legal adviser. If you are unsure whether a requirement can safely be relaxed, ask your broker or counsel before recording one.
